Homeless Woman Falls Into Canal, Attacked By Gator: St. Pete Fire

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. — A homeless woman was attacked by an alligator after fire and rescue officials said she fell from a seawall and was attacked.

The woman, who is described as being in her late 50s, suffered severe injuries to her arms in the attack, which occurred at 6 a.m., according to St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue. The woman was taken to Bayfront Health Medical Center, where she remains in stable condition.

Rescue workers were alerted to the woman after witnesses heard the woman yelling for help in the 1800 block of Fourth Street South. Officials said the woman had been resting on the seawall and fell into the canal when she was attacked by the large alligator.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials are currently searching for the alligator, fire and rescue officials said.
