Kats Continue Winning Ways, Open 2-game Lead At North Shore Park

Club offensive balance altered throughout the Club due to the arrival of members after the holidays, causing team captains to juggle lineups

In just twenty-eight days, the “ Kats” of captain Wald Ewald have improved their intraClub standing from two games behind the “Kub”s to top the standings with a two-game lead of their own over the remaining three teams.

While the “Kats” ability to wrestle the lead away from the Kubs” is notable, winning five of the last eight games. Of concern now of the intraclub competition leaders is the surge of captain Larry McCurdy’s “Kits,” who won six of eight games during the eight-game stretch December 7 through January 4.

The loss of offensive strength has contributed to the “Kubs” meltdown after a quick 8-1 start. A decision by Cuban-born Chio Blanco not to pursue his membership application, leaving the Club and a large hole in the “Kubs” offense.

Blanco led the Club in six offensive categories tracked by the Club statistician Leo Heiderscheit. In fifteen games played, Blanco hit fifteen home runs, most of them over the 250 ft outfield fence.
