Kids&Kubs History Shows Assistance To Local Charity Fundraising

"The Kids and Kubs are St Petersburg's nationally famous softball club for those age 75". St.Petersburg Times, March 17, 1973

Kids and Kubs(aka Three Quarter-Century Softball Club) announced that the Club would make available dates for Saturday exhibition games. Charities may sponsor their Club, church, favorite charity, family reunion, family, or company picnic with their fundraising efforts. All dates are open except when the City schedules heavy attendance events at the park.

Kids and Kubs have a history of assisting local charities in fundraising. The ninety-three-year-old organization, known corporately as the Three-Quarter Century Club, has provided donations to such local charities as Boys and Girls Club of America, Day Star Life, Friends of the Sunshine Center, Habitat for Humanity, Neighborly Care Network, St Petersburg Free Clinic, St Pete Police Athletic League, Suncoast Hospice, and St Pete TASCO Based Teens Programs.

Charities vary from year to year and have been presented since 1981 at the annual Mayor's game occurring annually in February

Funding for these donations is generated by the Club's Trust Fund, established in 1981. A 501 (c) (3) Corporation where contributors become a part of The Kids and Kubs "Legacy."

The very early years of fundraising occurred in a far different manner. Club archives tell of "pass the hat donations." after and during the game, with the revenue going to the designated charity for the day.

St Pete Times, March 6, 1973.

Kids and Kubs archives noted the following: "..a benefit softball game at Al Lange Field, vs. the St Louis Cardinal coaching staff was attended by 2,000 people. No admission was charged, but Little League Players and All Children's Guild members passed through the crowd for contributions". The hospital was a $750 winner that day, and it was noted that all money went to the hospital.

The Times column noted that in the previous month (February), the Kids and Kubs raised more than $600 when it played a game composed of City Hall Members.

In a concluding note, the page from the Times states, "The Kids and Kubs are St Petersburg's nationally famous softball club for those age 75 and over.
