Kids and Kubs open 93rd season with 2 games at North Shore Park Nov.1

Opening day of their 93rd season brought two "1 And 1" count 6-inning games due to ceremonies to launch the long-awaited start of the intra-club championship for the 22-23 season.

The first game of the day found Kubs captain Walt Ewald, stingy with the runs, won while pitching in relief of JD Horn. The Kub offense came alive in the top of the sixth inning, trailing 6-7 and scoring five runs.

Ewald masterfully handled the Kit's last three batters to gain an 11-7 win.

Shortstop Larry McCurdy went 3/3 at bat and shined defensively. First baseman Will Michaels also turned in a sterling defensive performance for captain Gorden Norton's Kits squad.

Kids pitcher Darwin Shiflett stymied Kats in the day's second game. His team was in control throughout the 9-3 victory. . Dennis Kuvalanka stars with bat and glove, going 3/3 at the plate. Joe Rinehart also contributed three hits to the Kids 17 hit total. Dave Laramee drove in two runs for the winners.

November 3 will pit the Kits vs. Kats at 10 AM and Kats vs. Kubs at North Shore Park,

Kids and Kubs are scheduled to meet the Florida General Hospital Transplant team in an exhibition contest at 10 AM at North Shore Park.
