Kids and Kubs Rough-up Tampa General Hospital Organ Transplant Team.

Kids and Kubs hold TGH scoreless in six innings of the eight-inning contest.

Doctors and professional staff members of the Tampa General Hospital organ transplant team brought a different kind of team to Saint Petersburg on Saturday, January 8, 2026. Hosted by The Kids Kubs at North Shore Park.
The game was the 12th annual contest between the two organizations, a series that began in 2014 when a member of the Kids and Kubs underwent a kidney transplant at Tampa General Hospital.
During his recovery, Cleo Stinyard spoke often about the Kids and Kubs organization, of which he was a part. The surgeons and professional staff of Tampa General Hospital have a softball team of their own, so they challenged the Three-Quarter Century Club and its Kids and Kubs to a game. The event has evolved into a friendly competition spanning 12 years.
No one has tracked which team has won the most games in the series, but last year's 2025 contest was notable: Tampa General Hospital delivered a 23-15 victory over the Kids and Kubs. The home team entered Saturday’s game determined to redeem themselves, unleashing a barrage of hits and runs against the visitors, along with sterling defensive play.
First-inning action opened with both teams showing stellar play. Ray Walsh completed a running shoe top catch at the top of the inning. Earlier, Tom Berry, the TGH left-center fielder, performed a “circus catch” after the ball bounced from his glove.
TGH drew first blood in the top of the second inning when shortstop Jared Garcia drove a 250-foot home run over the left field fence, scoring a runner ahead of him. The home team, Kids and Kubs, answered with the 5-run per inning limit, making the score Kids and Kubs 5, TGH 2 after two innings.
Kids and Kubs opened the game up with four runs in the home half of the third. TGH remained scoreless through four innings before Jared Garcia hit another home run to bring home Tom Tusha, just as they did in the second inning. The home team racked up 13 runs over the next five innings, resulting in a 22-4 final score.
The pitching tandem of Joe Hannah and Walt Ewald, combined with the sharp fielding of the Kids and Kubs, held TGH scoreless in six innings of the eight-inning contest.
