"Kutchinski's Kats" win twice to tie "Kits" at top

Kats Pitcher Pete Calabrese stopped Captain Joe Hannah's Kids, issuing one walk and scattering eight hits. Lou Weidner and Ethel Lehmann each delivered three rbi for Kats on the way to a 16-1 victory

KITS 14 KUBS 11

Larry McCurdy shut down the Kubs in the 7th, retiring three batters in relief for the save in the Kits 14-11victory. Walt Ewald and Mike Footlick each produced three rbi for Kubs. Outstanding glove work by Ed Asay (Kits) and "Burger" Callihan (Kubs) highlighted the defensive action of the game.

KUBS 12 KIDS 11

J.D. Horn delivered a walk-off single with two out for the Kubs in the bottom of the 8th. Walt's "Kubs" won a thriller from Joe's Kids, 12-11. "Kids' Mike Vandersyde smashed a long triple on the game's first pitch. Larry Webster hit a big 3-run double in the third as the "Kubs" led early.

Dennis Kuvalanka belted a clutch 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning, concluding a four-run rally to send the game to extra (8th) innings. When the Kubs could not use their last at-bat home team advantage to score.

KATS 15 KITS 4

Heavy-hitting "Kits" outfielder Frank Harrell, hitting over .800, went 3 for 3, but it was not enough to keep the Kits from being battered by Kats. Pierre Goiran also contributed to the "Kits'" offense. Still, little else seemed to be available as Captain "Cubbie" Kutchinski silenced most of the" Kits'" firepower; Harrell and Goiran being the exception. Kutchinski pitched well and was a significant cog in the Kats offense that rattled 24 hits off the pitching slants of "Kits" lefthander Jerry Wollman. "Kats" 2nd sacker Ethel Lehmann played a terrific shortstop, launching several long accurate throws. Making play after play like the Hall of Famer she is.
