Man Charged Attempted Murder of Infant

St. Petersburg Police brought the man into custody Sunday afternoon.

The 31-year-old St. Petersburg man wanted in connection with the severe beating of an 11-month-old boy on July 5 is now in custody.

According to the Pinellas Park Police Department, the agency received an anonymous tip Sunday, July 12, that Glen Franklin Neal Jr. was staying at a home in St. Petersburg. When St. Petersburg Police Officers went out to the home that afternoon, a woman at the door turned them away.

“A short while later another call was received, this time from someone claiming to be Neal’s attorney,” an email to media from Pinellas Park Police stated. “This person indicated that Neal would be turning himself in.”

Neal was wanted in connection with a brutal attack on an infant that occurred earlier this month. Pinellas Park Police say the child was “kicked, punched and bit.” The attack resulted in severe head trauma.

The boy, who is not being identified, remains in serious condition at All Children’s Hospital, police say.

The relationship between Neal and the child remains unclear, but police have said the boy was in Neal’s care at the time the injury occurred.

Neal was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on one count of attempted second-degree murder. He remained in jail Monday without bond.
