Man Shoots, Kills Wife, Self At St. Pete Assisted Living Facility: SPD

An 86-year-old man shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself Tuesday at a St. Pete assisted living facility, police said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — An 86-year-old man shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself Tuesday morning at a St. Petersburg assisted living facility, authorities said.

During routine check-ins around 10 a.m., an employee at Addington Place at College Harbor, 4600 54th Ave. S., found the bodies of Susan Dowler, 76, and her husband, Thomas Dowler, according to a St. Petersburg Police Department news release.

Investigators determined that Thomas, who was visiting the facility, shot his wife before shooting himself.

Their next of kin have been notified. The murder-suicide remains under investigation.
