Man Struck Crossing 34th Street In Wheelchair Dies Of Injuries

A 64-year-old man who was struck by a car while crossing 34th Street North in St. Petersburg in his wheelchair has died from his injuries.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- A 64-year-old man who was struck by a car while crossing 34th Street North in St. Petersburg in his wheelchair has died from his injuries.

According to St. Petersburg Police, Ronald Alan Ballew was crossing 34th Street North in the 1200 block on Sept. 15 at about 8 p.m. when he was struck by a Kia driven by Sheila Jones Cunningham, 29.

The front of the Kia hit the right side of the wheelchair, throwing Ballew into the road. Ballew was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with life-threatening injuries. His injuries were later downgraded to serious. However, his health declined over the following week and he died on Thursday, Sept. 27.
