Marco Island Man Hospitalized After Shooting Self In Head: FHP
The 22-year-old man is in critical condition after the Florida Highway Patrol said he shot himself while on the Howard Franklin Bridge.
ST. PETERSBURG, FLA – A 22-year-old Marco Island man is in critical condition at a local hospital after Florida Highway Patrol officers said he shot himself in the head while in a SUV.
The highway patrol said that troopers responded to a call of a shooting along the northbound lanes of I-275 Friday morning. The incident took place at 11:14 a.m. on the Howard Frankland Bridge, where troopers found the two men in a Nissan SUV. The other man, 23, is also from Marco Island, police said. Police said that the vehicle was pulled to the side of the road and that troopers discovered the man had shot himself in the head with a 9mm handgun.
Police have not identified the men or provided any more details of the shooting. At least one lane of the bridge is closed heading north while troopers continue to investigate the shooting.
