Missing Pup Chubby Cheese Reunited With St. Pete Family After 2 Years
A dog missing for 2 years was reunited with his St. Petersburg family thanks to an updated microchip, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Two years after going missing, a St. Petersburg pup has been reunited with his family.
The dog, Chubby Cheese, was recently brought to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay as a stray, the nonprofit organization shared in a Facebook post.
“Thankfully, he had a microchip, and we called the number immediately,” the Humane Society wrote. “On the other end of the phone there was stunned silence when we told them we had Chubby.”

For months after he first went missing, Chubby’s owners searched for him, “scouring Lost and Found websites, posting TikTok videos and checking with shelters,” the organization wrote. “They feared he had passed away and they’d lost all hope.”
His owners hopped in their car and headed to the organization’s Tampa shelter to pick him up before they even hung up the phone.

“The reunion was a beautiful thing to see and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room,” the nonprofit wrote. “Be well, sweet Chubby, and stay close to home.”
The Humane Society noted that Chubby’s reunion “is a perfect example of why it is so important to microchip your pets and to keep your contact information current.”
The organization added, “With a microchip, there is always hope.”
The Humane Society’s animal hospital at 3809 N. Armenia Ave. in Tampa offers microchipping for $30. More info can be found here.
