Mom Brought Heroin to Daycare, Cops Say

They were alerted when a man allegedly overdosed in her car outside the St. Petersburg center.

A 30-year-old St. Petersburg mother is accused of dropping her toddlers off at daycare and then partaking in a little heroin outside.

The scene unfolded around 9:30 a.m. Friday when St. Petersburg Police say they were called out to the Young Achievers Daycare Center, 3449 13th Ave. N., in regard to a possible drug overdose. Officers found a 30-year-old man inside a Kia Forte parked at that location.

“The male was having difficulty breathing and was likely suffering from an overdose,” an email from the department stated.

The man was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover, the email stated.

Once the man was safely in the hands of medical professionals, police turned their attention toward the car’s driver, Alicia Roxanne Adams. The woman told police she used drugs with the man they found in her car and said he was a friend, the email said. When police searched her purse, they found three syringes and a Xanax tablet. Inside that Kia, they found a gram of heroin and a small amount of marijuana, the email added.

“Officers also found a used syringe lying on the ground outside the car and near the daycare entrance,” the email said.

When asked why they were outside a daycare center, Adams, police said, told them she and the man had dropped off her two children. The kids are 1 and 3, police said.

Adams now faces a number of drug possession charges. Her kids were placed into state custody, the police department said. She remained in the Pinellas County Jail Monday in lieu of $4,300 bond, jail records indicate.
