Man Dies After Struggle With St. Petersburg Police During Welfare Check: PCSO (patch.com) — Residents in St. Petersburg are learning more about a deadly encounter after police say a 48-year-old man in mental health crisis attacked officers during a welfare check on 5th Street N. Officers used a Taser while subduing him, then noticed he was not breathing and began CPR before he was pronounced dead at a hospital. The Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Task Force is now reviewing the incident, and the man's exact cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner.
   

2. USF launches new bachelor's degree in nursing at St. Petersburg campus (usf.edu) — USF is launching a full four-year bachelor's in nursing on its St. Petersburg campus this fall, giving local students a direct path to RN careers without leaving the city. With new simulation labs and nearby hospitals like Johns Hopkins All Children's and Orlando Health Bayfront for clinical experience, the program aims to ease Florida's nursing shortage while expanding opportunities for St. Pete residents.
   

3. Rotary phone collects 'Stories of Humanity' at St. Pete park (fox13news.com) — A St. Petersburg therapist is placing a working rotary phone in Vinoy and Elva Rouse parks, inviting anyone passing by to quietly share a thought, memory, or story. The anonymous voicemails become short audio portraits on her Stories of Humanity Instagram page, giving St. Pete residents a low-pressure way to reflect and connect without appearing on camera.
   

4. Novelist Dominic Trimboli imagines a new role for Earth (stpetecatalyst.com) — St. Petersburg resident and former tech executive Dominic Trimboli has reinvented himself as a science-fiction novelist while settling into a new life in Old Northeast and a banking job downtown. His "Akkadian Meditations" series blends real 20th-century history with hidden civilizations and cosmic politics, and he's already at work on a fourth book while helping small businesses around St. Pete.
