Woman Charged in Hit-And-Run Death

A 39-year-old St. Petersburg man is dead following a Friday morning hit-and-run crash.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a GMC SUV driven by Christina Bayes, 31, of St. Petersburg was heading south on 34th Street North around 12:50 a.m. Bayes, a patrol report stated, approached the intersection of 54th Avenue North as the man was attempting to walk eastbound in the crosswalk.

Bayes’ SUV struck the man, the report said. She is then accused of fleeing the scene.

The man, who has not yet been identified, was taken to Northside Hospital where he later died.

A Pinellas County deputy pulled Bayes over at 34th Street North and 50th Avenue North, the report said. She was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death. Bayes was being held in the Pinellas County Jail Friday in lieu of $10,000 bond.
