Rays Stadium Deal Vote Postponed

The discussion has been tabled a week by the St. Petersburg City Council.

Baseball fans will have to wait one more week to see if a deal pitched by Mayor Rick Kriseman to allow the Tampa Bay Rays to seek new stadium sites flies with the St. Petersburg City Council.

The discussion about the proposed deal between the Rays and the city to allow the team to look for sites in Hillsborough County and elsewhere in Pinellas was tabled to give the council more time to review the document, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

Under the proposed deal, if the team does move out of Tropicana Field, it will have to pay the city $4 million a season through December 2018, WFLA reported. Those payments would drop to $3 million a season between 2019 and 2022 and $2 million a season between 2023 to 2026, the Tampa Bay Times reported.
