Clearwater Man Arrested, Accused Of Nearly Beating, Stomping To Death His Elderly Mom

The 83-year-old is hospitalized in critical condition in St. Petersburg with multiple broken bones and internal injuries, police said.

CLEARWATER, FL – Clearwater police on Tuesday arrested a local man for the alleged attempted murder of his 83-year-old mother in a brutal beating that occurred the day before and left the woman in critical condition, according to authorities.

Daniel Edward Richards, 60, of the 1700 block of Linwood Circle was taken into custody and booked Tuesday night into the Pinellas County Jail, police said.

The man is accused of throwing his mother to the floor and kicking and stomping her on Monday, the department said.

Detectives say he gave multiple accounts of how the injuries were sustained, but said the two got into a verbal argument that turned physical when Richards attacked.

The victim, Catherine Richards, currently is listed in critical condition at Bayfront Health in St. Petersburg with multiple broken bones and internal injuries.
