Teen Victims Of Tuesday Lightning Strike At Sand Key In Critical, Good Condition

The two are at Largo Medical Center.

CLEARWATER, FL – Two teens injured Tuesday afternoon following a lightning strike on Sand Key beachwere recovering at Tampa General Hospital Tuesday evening, according to Clearwater police.

Cameron Poimboeuf, 15, of Charlotte, N.C., was first was taken to Largo Medical Center before being transferred to TGH and is listed in critical condition, police said.

Jansen M. Tabor, 18, of Matthews, N.C., meanwhile, is listed in good condition.

The younger victim, Poimboeuf, was visiting the area with his girlfriend's family, friends of Tabor, when the incident occurred.

Police said the pair were walking on the beach when the storm rolled in, and as the rain began to fall, they attempted a dash for shelter. Tabor reportedly recounted to officers that the next thing he remembered was waking up on the sand after the lightning strike.

The incident occurred on the beach in front of Lighthouse Towers along the 1200 block of Gulf Boulevard.
