Through the city's Mayor's Mentors & More program, 62 kids are eligible for four-year college tuition scholarships.

ST. PETERSBURG - More than 60 St. Petersburg 6th-graders are getting the chance of their young lifetime: If they keep their grades up and stay out of trouble, they will get to go to college for free.

On Thursday, the city's Mayor's Mentors & More program will formalize that offer to 62 low-income families, offering children who've been identified as high achievers the chance to receive a four-year college tuition scholarship.

On Thursday, May 12, parents and guardians of  the 6th graders will be asked to sign commitment documents. Known as the Doorways scholarships, the offers are being made through the Pinellas Education Foundation to economically disadvantaged families.
