Updated: Skyway Bridge Open After Wind Closure
The Skyway was closed to all traffic Saturday morning as high winds kick up in Tampa Bay.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- The Florida Highway Patrol has announced the closing of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge due to Saturday morning’s high winds.

According to Sgt. Steve Gaskins, winds on the bridge have been recorded between 40 and 50 mph with gusts well over 50 mph. Motorists are asked to find alternative routes.
It is unclear how long the bridge will remain closed to traffic. High winds are anticipated throughout the day on Saturday. Motorists can check on the status of road closings on the highway patrol’s website.
