St. Pete High’s Green & White Game Will Feature the Red, White and Blue
Local Marine Corps troops will participate in a pre-game challenge designed to bolster athletes' stamina and raise awareness for the military.
The annual Green & White game, a spring practice game between members of the varsity football team at St. Pete High, will have a patriotic overtone this Friday afternoon at Green Devil Stadium.
Members of two local Marine Corps units – the 4th Amphibious Assault Battalion and the Marine Substation of St. Pete - as well as officials from the Florida Marine Recruiting Headquarters in Orlando will converge on the school to participate in a new training program to benefit the athletes as well as the military.
The Marine Challenge will pit members of the Corps against members of the football team in contests partly bases on a CFT, or Combat Fitness Test, featuring endurance events such as “buddy carrying,” lifting and running.

The idea was the brainchild of Green Devils Coach Joe Fabrizio, who “asked the Marines to assist in providing alternate training methods for his athletes,” according to Staff Sergeant Paul Robbins of the Marine Recruiting Headquarters.
In addition to the challenge, the Marines will have combat vehicles on display, games set up for students to win tee shirts and other items, and a table to assist with recruiting questions.

The Challenge is scheduled to start at 12:30. The Green & White game will take place after that, followed by the announcement of the first annual Foxhole Awards, given to players who excelled in the challenge.
The event is free and open to the public.
