St. Pete Man Accused Of Making Bomb Threat To Sheriff's Sergeant

According to the Pinellas Sheriff, when questioned, the accused admitted to making the threat "because I'm an idiot."

ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- Detectives have arrested a St. Petersburg man for reportedly making a bomb threat to a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office sergeant.

The threat came in at 1:12 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, and was recorded on the voicemail of sheriff's Sgt. Richard Bailey, who works in the misdemeanor probation unit.

The message said, "Hey Sarge, I hope you like your kids. Gotta bomb coming."

A sheriff's K9 bomb unit was sent to the sergeant's home to see if any explosives had been placed in or around the home. The search turned up no bomb.

Detectives say they identified the caller as 24-year-old Daniel Lee Harris of St. Petersburg, who is currently on probation. According to the sheriff's office, when questioned Harris admitted to making the threat "because I'm an idiot."

He was charged with making a threat to discharge a destructive device.
