St. Pete Man Dies in Port of Tampa Accident
Hercules Gilmore, 56, was killed after steel pipes from a crane fell on top of him and three others working at the bottom of a ship's cargo hold.
A St. Petersburg man died Tuesday after an accident at the Port of Tampa.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Hercules Gilmore, 56, was killed after steel pipes from a crane fell on top of him and three others working at the bottom of a ship's cargo hold.
The Sheriff's Office said Gilmore, of 4645 3rd Ave. S, and his co-workers were employed as stevedores for the International Longshoreman's Association on a ship called "Honesty Ocean".

These men, according to a news release, were bundling steel pipes for a crane to lift them from the cargo hold when during a lift, a strap on the bundle broke causing the pipes to crash down upon all four men.
Gilmore was killed on the ship; a second man suffered non-life threatening injuries and is currently being treated at Tampa General Hospital. The other two men were not injured. OSHA has been notified, according to authorities.
