St. Pete Moped Driver Dies Following Collision With Car

St. Petersburg Police say a 56-year-old man died when his moped struck a car.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – St. Petersburg Police say a 56-year-old man has died from injuries sustained Thursday, July 26, when a car struck his moped.

The accident occurred on 5th Avenue North, just west of 16th Street shortly before 8 a.m.

Wayne Flaherty, 56, of St. Vincent de Paul Shelter, 384 15th St. N., St. Petersburg, was riding his motor scooter east on 5th Avenue North when Flaherty changed lanes and struck the back of a Toyota Prius that was headed in the same direction.

Flaherty was taken to Bayfront Health where he died on Friday.
