Update: St. Pete Police Investigate Fatal Accident On 16th Street

ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- A 53-year-old man was killed Monday morning when his scooter was struck by a pickup truck on 16th Street North in St. Petersburg. The accident occurred about 6:40 a.m.

A 2003 Chevrolet pickup driven by Steven Buch, 53, was traveling north on 16th Street North when it began to turn left onto 3rd Avenue North. At that point, Buch struck a scooter driven by Willie Bennett Jr. traveling south on 16th Street.

Bennett, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown off the scooter and died at the scene.

Buch stopped and cooperated with police.

The investigation into the crash by the St. Petersburg Police Department is continuing.
