St. Pete Police Seek Identity Of Man In Shooting Of 24-Year-Old

"He was a great kid who would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need," said Jason Carr's father, Jake.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — St. Petersburg Police detectives have released a surveillance video of a car that they believe was involved in the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old roofing employee on Dec. 9.

The surveillance video shows a newer black SUV as it leaves the area after the shooting. Also included is a grainy surveillance video of the same vehicle dropping off the man who fatally shot Jason Carr.

Jason Carr's mother, Joy Steinruck, said she dropped her son off around 6:30 a.m. at his job at Duncan Roofing Inc., 2570 25th Ave. N. Seconds after she drove away, Carr was gunned down in the parking lot of the roofing company.

Carr's family has started a Gofundme page to raise $15,000 for his funeral expenses. So far, about $9,500 has been donated.

"He was a great kid who would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. He wore his heart on his sleeve," said Carr's father, Jake Carr. "He loved life. He loved people and all living things, including his two little brothers, Joseph and Cayden, his beautiful 7-year-old son Ethan and his parents, Joy Steinruck and myself."

Carr said the family is baffled. There seems to be no motive for the murder.

Joy Steinruck

Jason Carr, right, has a close relationship with his family, including his mother, Joy Steinruck, and brother, Joseph Steinruck.

"He was shot several times from behind by a masked gunman, a senseless act of violence that he did not deserve," Carr said. "All he mostly did was work or help out around the house. He loved his job. The owner, Mr. Duncan, informs that Jason was a great worker and close to becoming a journeyman roofer."

"We don't have enough money at this time for a proper, dignified funeral that he well deserves. Any donations would help. It is our full intention to honor Jason's life by ensuring that he will get a proper dignified burial," said Carr.
