St. Pete Police Seek Suspect In Theft Of Car With Baby Inside

St. Petersburg Police are searching for Rashad Levon, 19, in connection to the theft of a car with an 8-month-old baby in the back seat.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- St. Petersburg Police are searching for Rashad Levon, 19, in connection to the theft of a car with an 8-month-old baby in the back seat.

Police say the baby's father strapped the infant into his car seat Monday, April 23, around 12:22 p.m. at the Gateway Apartments, 501 116th Ave. N., St. Petersburg. Afterward, he remembered that he'd forgotten his wallet and ran back to his apartment to retrieve it.

In the two minutes the father was gone, police say Levon stole the man's Toyota Camry with the baby in the back seat.

Witnesses say Levon was riding his bike in the area when the theft occurred. The baby was left unharmed in his car seat in a parking lot at 800 71st Ave. N. where he was found by a photojournalist. The car was found abandoned at 2700 19th St S. in St. Petersburg.
