St. Pete Revs Up for Race Week
Mayor Rick Kriseman will raise a race-themed flag over City Hall Thursday morning.

As the countdown clock ticks down on the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, the city is gearing up for the festivities.
Events honoring the 11th annual run get under way Thursday at 10:45 a.m. when Mayor Rick Kriseman plans to raise a race-themed flag over City Hall, 175 Fifth St. N. The ceremony takes place on the northeast lawn, at the corner of Fifth Street and Second Avenue North.
“As a worldwide audience tunes into Sunday’s IndyCar series race live on ABC television, the 11th anniversary of this event is a time to celebrate our city of opportunity, embrace the
race, welcome visitors and patronize local businesses,” Kriseman said in a media release.

More race-themed festivities kick off Friday when the city plays host to the “Fast Friday – Block Party” from 5:30 to 10 p.m. on Central Avenue between Second and Third streets. The party includes live music, vendors and family friendly activities.
The Grand Prix takes place March 27-29 with event tickets available online. Three-day reserved seating tickets start at $105 for adults in the lower rows.
