St. Petersburg High Graduation Redux

Principal offers students another chance to get their diplomas after Thursday's sudden downpour shortened the ceremony.

The Class of 2011 at St. Pete High gets to graduate a second time.

A rainstorm washed out last week's Thursday night ceremony, cutting the event short, so Principal Al Bennett has offered a makeup ceremony.

The second graduation is Tuesday at 7 p.m., in the auditorium, precluding the chance of another drenching rain to disrupt the event.

This will be a briefer ceremony than the original event, with Bennett speaking to the class and reading students' names as they walk across the stage. Families and friends will get the chance to take commemorative photographs.

The sudden storms made Thursday's initial graduation ceremony memorable, if shortened. It started out as a picturesque evening. The warm sun was setting and lighting up the partly cloudy sky.
