“Summer” Kids and Kubs defeat 3Score of Clearwater in 7-6 walkoff

With the start of the intraclub competition forty-nine days, the Kids and Kubs “Summer ball squad” sharpened their skills on Tuesday, August 14, with a 7-6 walk-off victory.

The 84-degree temperature that prevailed during the contest had a cooling effect on the offensive power of both teams. Duces were wild on the scoreboard as both teams led off the opening inning with a pair of runs. The visitors from Clearwater added another pair of runs in the top of the second inning while holding the “summer ballers” from North Shore Park scoreless to go up 4-2.

The lead did not last long as the home team’s defense shut down 3Score while adding a pair of runs to their total, knotting the score at 4-4; however, the visitor went up by two runs with duce in the top of the fourth and again increased the lead by two runs 6-4 at the end of four innings.

Pitcher Walt Ewald and good defense by the summer ball squad held the visitors scoreless in innings 5,6, and seven. Kids and Kubs offense disappeared for innings 4,5, and six and came to bat in the bottom of the seventh trailing 6-4, setting the stage for the last inning when Doug xxxxxx, singled scoring two runners to add to the one run that had scored previously in the seventh inning for the victory.

Kids and Kubs welcome tryouts at Northshore Park Field, 901 North Shore Blvd., during the Summer Ball sessions. Men and Women, bring your glove and shoes (bats provided) and join the pickup games are now being held at North Shore Field every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m., weather permitting.
