Teen Hit by SUV Monday on Martin Luther King Street Dies

BREAKING: Seventeen-year-old Alina Marie Perez was struck while crossing the street.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A 17-year-old pedestrian seriously injured Monday morning after being struck by a car on Martin Luther King Street North in St. Petersburg passed away, police said this afternoon.

Alina Marie Perez was walking across Dr. MLK Street North at 7:07 a.m. when she was struck by a northbound red Buick Rendezvous SUV. The road was closed in both directions in the 5400 block following the crash.

The St. Petersburg Police Department said on Monday that it is seeking a possible witness to the accident that occurred near 55th Avenue North.

"There may have been a person riding a motorcycle or a scooter at this location that may have witnessed this accident," police said, asking that the individual contact the St. Petersburg PD at (727) 893-7780.
