Men's Health feature explores how "friendships improve our lives by generating endorphins pumping out …raw feels." Great friends provide "a shoulder to cry on….. so, you bounce back quicker during hard times."
Seven categories of friendships may be places where real friends are developed. Among the areas examined are how work contacts become real friends. How fitness friends share power in pushing the limits together and building friendships. How a fitness Triathlon team builds friendships. Cyclists, too, are included in this review. Runners are considered an activity where male participants may develop friendships. Weight Lifting is reported as an activity where friendships can be developed. For older people, friendly competition builds many friendships. Competition is not forgotten as a place to build friendships. John Draeger, 75, noted a surprising lack of criticism for mistakes on the field. Pete Calabrese, 83, noted it's a friendly competition. It helps keep you young instead of just being a couch potato. Jerry Wollman,85, We talk up the game, but it is all done in humor. Everybody watches over each other.
Frank Harrell 83, Gordon Norton 84, and Bob Kane 77 also contributed comments about how the Club competition develops friendship among members.
."Frank Harrel 'The veteran [players] take the rookies under their wing. [When I joined], my mentor was 92 at the time. He has since passed, but he was a good role model."Gordon Norton 84, "I'm enjoying it just as much as Iever did. I still look forward to getting out there each game. I don't think my enthusiasm has dropped off, and I'm probably playing a little better than I wasten years ago. When I first started, I hadn't played—hadn't played this type ofsoftball at all."Bob Kane 77, "[Aftermoving to St. Pete], I had no social contacts. My wife will remark how much[this league] brought me out of [my] shell."
