Trolley Driver Charged In Crash That Injured Teen: St. Pete Police

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority trolley driver was arrested in connection with a Nov. 19 crash that left a teenage girl critically injured, according to a St. Petersburg Police Department news release.

Chrishawn Rodgers, 55, of Tampa was charged with reckless driving with serious bodily injury.

She also received citations for a red light violation, failure to change address, providing false information in a crash and speeding too fast for an intersection, police said.

The victim, 15-year-old Tammy Burch of Gulfport, got off the SunRunner bus on 1st Avenue South between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street and 5th Street around 11:30 a.m. and was hit by the trolley, driven by Rodgers, as she crossed the street, police said.

The teen was brought to John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital after the crash. She’s still recovering from her injuries.

Rodgers was brought to St. Anthony’s Hospital with minor injuries. Two passengers on the trolley also suffered minor injuries and were brought to local hospitals.
