Troubled Former Bucs Defensive End Faces Crack Cocaine Charge

Former Buccaneers defensive end Alvin (Keith) McCants was arrested early this morning, June 25, for possession of crack cocaine.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Former Buccaneers defensive end Alvin (Keith) McCants was arrested early this morning, June 25, for possession of crack cocaine.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, McCants, 50, of 711 36th Ave. S., St. Petersburg, was was pulled over by deputies near St. Petersburg at 4:24 a.m.

He's charged with a felony count of possession of crack cocaine and driving with a revoked or suspended license.

He was released from jail after posting $2,150 bail and entering a not guilty plea. A trial is scheduled for July 10.

Born in Alabama on April 14, 1968, the 6-foot-tall, 400-pound McCants played defensive end for the University of Alabama where he made the All-American Team.

He was selected to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 1990 NFL draft and played three seasons with Bucs and two years with the Oilers and Cardinals before a series of sacks ended his career in 1995.

He's led a troubled life since 2010 when he was arrested for possession of cocaine in Pinellas County.

Pinellas County deputies arrested him again in 2011 for possession of cocaine, obstructing or resisting a police officer and a fugitive warrant out of Alabama. He served 16 days in jail.

He was also arrested in Pinellas County again in 2011 and 2013 on outstanding traffic warrants from Alabama and unlawful use of a temporary tag.

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office arrested McCants twice in 2014 for possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a suspended license.

That same year he was arrested twice in Pinellas County for possession of cocaine, resisting arrest without violence and a warrant out of Alabama.

He served two days in jail in 2016 after being arrested for domestic battery and simple battery by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

On Jan. 3, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office once again arrested McCants for driving while his license was suspended in a car with no tags.
