USF St. Petersburg Student Board Invites Nonprofits to Apply for Grant Money

Nine boards, led by professors, researched community needs and created grant proposals. Each of the student boards will award up to $5,000.

ST. PETERSBURG – Bay area non-profits have the opportunity to apply for $5,000 in grant money that the Student Philanthropy Boards at USF St. Petersburg will award to recipients.

Nine boards, led by six USF St. Petersburg professors, researched community needs and created corresponding grant proposals. Each of the student boards will award up to $5,000. The topics are:

•    Preventing homelessness for those aging out of foster care
•    Providing vocational training for homeless
•    Helping hand to female victims of domestic violence
•    Educating adolescents about drug & alcohol abuse
•    Resource efficiency – redefining waste
•    Restoration and sustainability of coastal areas
•    Supporting caregivers and infant development from ages 0-3
•    Education and training for coparenting families
•    Bringing joy to terminally ill children and their families
•    Recreation & educational awareness (READ) at Campbell Park

The university received a Learn and Serve America grant of $395,000, which  supports the Student Philanthropy Boards and the Lead Learn Serve program.
