Watch: Construction Crane Crashes Down, Narrowly Missing Worker
A giant construction crane at the site of the new St. Petersburg Police Department headquarters crashed to the ground.
ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- The heavy load followed by the arm of a giant construction crane at the site of the new St. Petersburg Police Department headquarters crashed to the ground at 8:23 a.m. Thursday, April 5, narrowly missing a construction worker.
Video captured the moment construction workers on the ground realized that the crane was about to fall.
The video shows several workers running away as the load from the crane crashes to the ground, closely followed by the massive arm of the crane. The arm landed just feet from one of the workers.

Fortunately, said St. Pete Police, there were no injuries and the accident did only minimal damage to the site.
The new police headquarters at 1301 1st Ave. N, across from the current police headquarters, had been under construction for a year.

The 167,519-square-foot headquarters, costing $79 million, is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
