• Ex-Sweetwater commissioner sentenced to federal prison in wire fraud case (nbcmiami.com) — Sweetwater residents may recall former city commissioner Sophia Lacayo, who has now been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for fraudulently obtaining nearly $950,000 in pandemic relief loans. Lacayo, who resigned her Sweetwater post in 2019 after a perjury case, will also serve supervised release and still faces separate state campaign-related charges.
