Two witnesses told investigators the boys were on Aberdeen Avenue shortly after 5 p.m. when they got into an argument, "possibly over money or about buying a cell phone," the department said. As the 15-year-old got on his scooter and began to ride away, the older boy allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at least three rounds at the victim, deputies said.

As responders were enroute to the crime scene, the alleged shooter turned himself in at the local office in New Port Richey, the agency said. His interrogation was still underway as of 9 p.m., authorities said, adding that officials may wish to try him as an adult for the crime.
