📰 News we're reading

• City of Venice follows Sarasota County in enacting burn ban (mysuncoast.com) — Venice has enacted a citywide burn ban, mirroring Sarasota County’s restrictions because of ongoing drought and heightened fire danger. All outdoor burning, including bonfires, campfires, and yard debris, is prohibited unless specifically permitted, though gas and charcoal grills are still allowed with extreme caution. Residents should adjust outdoor plans and firepit use accordingly until conditions improve.

• Sarasota, Manatee roundup: Flag football, beach volleyball districts start (heraldtribune.com) — Venice High’s flag football team fell to Bloomingdale 58–7 as district playoffs got underway this week for Sarasota and Manatee schools. The roundup also tracks beach volleyball and softball results, plus which local teams advance to midweek district matchups that Venice fans may want to follow.
