City Of West Palm Beach To Observe Columbus Day, Acknowledge Indigenous Peoples’ Day
Both observances will be on Oct. 12.
October 7, 2020
While West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James and the City of West Palm Beach will observe Columbus Day on Monday, October 12, 2020, Mayor James has also proclaimed that day as Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Joining a growing number of cities and towns in the United States that are recognizing the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples’ Day, West Palm Beach is taking the opportunity to celebrate indigenous heritage and resiliency. Indigenous Peoples’ Day was first proposed in 1977 by a delegation of Native Nations to the International Conference on Discrimination Against Indigenous Populations of the Americas.
