City Of West Palm Beach To Observe Women’s History Month In March
A series of free events is planned.

The City of West Palm Beach will observe Women’s History Month in March. The month celebrates the contributions that women have made to our history in their struggles for social, economic, and political equality and deepens our understanding of our nation’s and our city’s history. At the March 8, 2021 City Commission meeting, Mayor Keith A. James will issue a special proclamation declaring the month Women’s History Month, and the City will host a series of events.

The City of West Pam Beach will observe the month with a series of FREE events. The Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach offers these programs for adults and children:
- Women of To-Morrow: The Social Activism of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings and Ellen Glasgow

Join Ashley Lear from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University as she discusses the literary friendship of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings and Ellen Glasgow. Ashley Lear draws upon research from her book, “The Remarkable Kinship of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings and Ellen Glasgow” to describe the ways in which both women addressed systemic social issues through their literature and their literary reputations. The presentation examines their roles in women’s suffrage, race relations in America, socio-economic class issues, and their dedication to environmentalism and animal rights. - Plena Combativa Musical Performance

The all-female Plena Combativa band is fighting sexism with every performance in this traditionally male-dominated Puerto Rican folk genre. Enjoy their repertoire of reinvented classics and original compositions live on Zoom directly from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The program will be presented in Spanish and English.
