City Of WPB Donates $3,149 In MLK Day Parking Revenues To Martin Luther King Caregivers Program

The annual donation has been a tradition since 2006.

At a City Commission meeting on February 22, 2021, The City of West Palm Beach awarded $3,149 to the Martin Luther King Caregivers program. The donated funds were appropriated by Commissioners from parking meter revenues on the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on January 18, 2021. Parking Administrator Ed Davis presented the donation to Ms. Edith C. Bush, Executive Director of the Martin Luther King Caregivers program.

Established in 1995 as a project of the Martin Luther King Coordinating Committee, the Martin Luther King Caregivers program provides direct services to persons 55 and older. It is volunteer driven and provides caregiving, homemaker assistance, food distribution, respite care, and transportation to economically disadvantaged homebound elders.

โ€œOn behalf of the City of West Palm Beach, I thank the Martin Luther King Coordinating Committee and the Martin Luther King Caregivers volunteers for their compassionate work caring for our most vulnerable residents,โ€ said West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James. โ€œWe are pleased to make a donation to the program to ensure these volunteers can continue their inspiring work in our community.โ€

โ€œWe express our sincere appreciation to you for this contribution,โ€ said Ms. Bush to Mayor James and City Commissioners. โ€œThis will help us continue our efforts to provide handicap ramps, food to seniors, and other needs in our community.โ€

โ€œMaking this donation to the Martin Luther King Caregivers program has been a tradition since 2006,โ€ said Parking Administrator Ed Davis. โ€œIn 15 years, the City has awarded more than $42,000 to the program.โ€
