City of West Palm Beach to Monitor Illegal Dumping “Hotspots” With Closed Circuit Cameras

Putting Neighborhoods First, City Continues Efforts to Curb Illegal Dumping

The city has made it even harder to illegally dump trash and waste on our streets. Seven closed circuit cameras have been installed in neighborhoods hardest hit by illegal dumping. These cameras can capture vital information that can be used to help convict suspects charged with an illegal dumping crime.

Summer Youth Basketball League Registration Now Open

The City of West Palm Beach Parks and Recreation Department is currently accepting registrations for its summer 2021 youth basketball league. The league will be held at the South Olive Community Center (345 Summa Street).

ICYMI: Registration Open for Counselor-in-Training Summer Program

Through its Parks and Recreation Department, the City of West Palm Beach is now accepting applications for its Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program. The program is designed to help high school students unlock their leadership potential and develop a variety of skills for future success. CITs will receive firsthand experience working with younger campers during the city’s additional summer day camps. This volunteer program is open to all students who have completed grades 9-11.

Warren Hawkins Aquatic Center Awarded $5,000 USA Swimming Foundation Grant

The City of West Palm Beach’s Warren Hawkins Aquatic Center at Gaines Park, located at 1501 N. Australian Avenue, was chosen by the USA Swimming Foundation to receive a $5000 grant in 2021. Funds will support the city’s continued efforts to provide free or reduced-cost swim lessons. The city was one of just 67 swim lesson providers in the nation that were awarded a grant by the USA Swimming Foundation this year.

Update on Mayor's Taskforce on Racial & Ethnic Equality

We would like to recognize Robbriannia Johnson as a "Taskforce Champion." She is helping to spread the word about ways to get involved with the Mayor's Taskforce on Racial & Ethnic Equality. Ms. Johnson is Director of Equity and Justice Services with the YWCA of Palm Beach County, which is currently running its 21-Day Racial Equity & Social Justice Challenge. In

addition to volunteering to help spread the word about the taskforce, she is involved with organizations including the Girls Coordinating Council of Palm Beach County, Martin Luther King Jr. Coordinating Committee, League of Women’s Voter and Women’s Foundation of Florida. DEADLINE EXTENDED: Naming Competition for Future Resource Center

The City of West Palm Beach Housing and Community Development Department (HCD) is hosting a naming competition. City residents and business owners are invited to submit their name suggestions for two conference rooms and one multipurpose room at the future community hub, scheduled to open in late 2021. Nominations are being accepted now through Sunday, May 9, 2021.

Ordinance Updated for Citywide Sidewalk Café Seating

At the City Commission meeting on Monday, March 22, 2021, commissioners approved Ordinance 4936-21 which defines the permissible areas and placement of sidewalk seating. The ordinance was designed to ensure that the public space is equitable for both passersby and restaurant or business patrons alike. These changes are being made after the completion of the Clematis Streetscape Project and after the COVID-19 pandemic heightened the importance of ensuring ample space between individuals to help curb the spread of the virus.
