West Palm Beach Mayor Announces Completion Of $44.7 Million In Infrastructure Improvements

West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James announces the completion of $44.7 million in infrastructure improvements across the City of West Palm Beach in the 2020 Fiscal Year. 42 projects were completed by the City’s Department of Engineering Services that strengthen infrastructure critical to moving goods and people throughout the City, improve the overall quality of life of residents, and support economic development.

Among the completed projects are:

• 27th Street Paving
• 36th Street Streetscape (Windsor to Greenwood) – focus on Art in Public Places
• Arc Flash Mitigation at Lift Stations - for added safety for workers
• Blum Park Improvements -full restroom refurbishment
• Centennial Fountain Rehabilitation – refurbishment of underground pump systems for functionality and safety
• Chillingworth Park Pavilion - refurbished pavilion
• Chillingworth Roadway & Stormwater Improvements
• City Paws Park Improvements – added shade structures for pets and owners
• Clematis Alleyway 300 Block – stormwater and sewer upgrades and installation of conduits for future undergrounding of power and communication cables
• Clematis Street Streetscape Phase 2 & 3 – widened walking areas, added shade trees and improved pedestrian access
• Control Structure Number 6 refurbished
• Cumberland Roundabout- including Art in Public Places
• Grassy Waters Handrail Replacement – handrail replaced for visitor safety and aesthetics
• Gregory Road Traffic Calming
• Currie Park Boat Access Improvements – improved dock facilities to accommodate larger boats and police docking
• Executive Center Drive Bike Lanes – added separated bicycle lands for greater rider safety
• Fire Station 5 IT/AC
• Flagler Paving (Banyan to 3rd Street)
• Gaines Park Irrigation
• Grand View Heights Utilities
• Henrietta and 11th Street Paving
• Lake Avenue Bicycle Lanes -added dedicated bicycle lanes, northbound and southbound
• Monceaux & Hampton traffic calming
• North Flagler Median -
• Okeechobee Boulevard Lighting Project – lighting improvements to provide more safety for pedestrians
• Palm Beach Outlets Storm Pipe Repair
• Parker Avenue/Belvedere/Southern – Paving, bike lanes and school zone upgrades
• Pinewood “T” Intersection Improvements
• Roosevelt Estates Phase 1 & 2 Paving
• Heritage Alley/7th St. Streetscapes
• Lake Mangonia and Clear Lake Shoreline Stabilization
• Rosemary Lighting, 8th – 11th Street -improved lighting for safety
• Sail Club Roof Repair
• School Zone Striping and Signage Upgrades – improved overall safety for students
• Spruce Street Utilities, Resurfacing and Bike Lanes – addition of new curbs, ADA compliant crossing, roundabouts and new landscaping
• Vallette/Tuxedo/Wildemere/Coconut Paving
• Wetlands Hydration Improvements
• Tamarind Ave. Safety Improvements- Fern- Banyan by TriRail Station
• Windsor Avenue Improvements – water and sanitary sewer replacement, as well as sidewalk replacement and road repaving, from 35th through 29th streets
• WPB Complex Drainage
• WPB Complex Paving

“Investing in our infrastructure helps to improve the overall quality of life for residents, promote economic development, and make our community even safer,” said West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James. “We are committed to making improvements in all neighborhoods and are identifying more projects to be undertaken in the next fiscal year.”

The projects are a part of the City’s Capital Improvement Program, which is funded through the gas tax, public works bond, fire assessment fee, grants, One-cent sales tax, CRA bond and dedicated funding earmarked for capital projects.

“We installed better lighting and bike lanes, repaved roads and improved stormwater systems,” said Kevin Volbrecht, Director of the City’s Engineering Services Department. “With some projects, the improvements are obvious, such as the Clematis Streetscape project. Other projects are tucked away in smaller neighborhoods, but those jobs are just as important and make a difference in the safety and overall quality of life in our community.”
