Army Soldier Killed In Action During Iranian Strike Lived In GA: Report

JORDAN — One of two soldiers killed in action during Iranian strikes Friday in Jordan primarily lived in Georgia, his family told CNN.

The Pentagon on Monday said 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, was supporting operations in Jordan when he died during an enemy attack at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base. He was pronounced dead Saturday.

Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, was also killed in the attack, according to the Pentagon.

A third soldier died Sunday during the controlled detonation of a downed drone at Erbil Air Base, Iraq, the Pentagon said Tuesday.

The soldier was identified as Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton, 30, of Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was assigned to D Battery, 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

The deadly incidents are under investigation, the Pentagon said.

Feehan's family told CNN he enlisted in the Army in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, but primarily lived in Georgia.

He was engaged and planned to get married after deployment, CNN reported Tuesday.

“We want America and the world to know Tyler lived life to the fullest and accomplished more in his 25 years than most complete in a lifetime,” Stephen and Shari Feehan, his parents, told CNN.

Feehan was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 32nd Army Air Missile Defense Command at Fort Bragg.

Gonzales was assigned to 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 10th Army Air Missile Defense Command in Ansbach, Germany.

“U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command mourns the loss of 1st Lt. Tyler Feehan, whose service and sacrifice will never be forgotten,” said Lt. Gen. John L. Rafferty, commanding general of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command, in a news release. “Losing him to enemy fire will inspire our soldiers and strengthen their resolve to continue the mission.”

Feehan joined the Army in 2019 as a 12B combat engineer with the Hawaii Army National Guard, according to Defense Command.

In 2024, the Brigham Young University student became an active-duty air defense artillery officer and was assigned as a platoon leader at Fort Bragg.

During his time in the Army, Feehan received the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Combat Action Badge, according to Defense Command.

He will additionally receive the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Action Badge. The Army said he will also be posthumously promoted to captain.

"1st Lt. Feehan’s unwavering dedication to our mission, our values and the air defenders he led will leave an enduring legacy,” Brig. Gen. John Dawber, 32nd AAMDC commanding general, said in the release. “We stand fully committed to supporting his family and loved ones through this incredibly difficult time, and we will never forget his ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation.”
