GA Coronavirus: Hospital Employee Dies, Found In Home With Child

COWETA COUNTY, GA — A Georgia health care worker died last week from the coronavirus, according to a county coroner. Coweta County Coroner Richard Hawk told a local TV station the woman was found dead in her home within the county, while her young child was found alive in the residence.

The worker was a 42-year-old woman who worked at Piedmont Newnan Hospital as a mammogram technician, reports WGXA.

Police discovered the woman's body after a welfare check. She had reportedly been dead for 12 to 16 hours. A child between the ages of 4 or 5 years old was in the home at the time, Hawk said.

Piedmont Newnan officials told WGXA they've contacted all employees and patients who may had contact with the deceased worker.

Globally, more than 392,000 people have been infected and more than 17,000 people have died from the COVID-19 virus, Johns Hopkins reported as of Tuesday. Of that total, more than 81,400 confirmed cases are in China, while the entire United States has 46,000 confirmed cases as of Tuesday. There have been 593 deaths in the U.S., including 32 in Georgia, that have been tied to the virus outbreak.
