Soldier Killed In Fort Stewart Shooting

The shooting at Fort Stewart Monday triggered a brief lockdown of the Second Armored Brigade Combat Team complex.

FORT STEWART, GA — A soldier has died at Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield Monday morning after a shooting that prompted a brief lockdown at one of the complexes, according to the base.

The soldier's identity is not being released, until their next-of-kin can be notified.

A suspect is in the custody of the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division, base officials said.

The shooting happened around 10 a.m. at the Second Armored Brigade Combat Team complex, which was temporarily locked down, base officials said.

There is no current threat to the community, base officials said.
