4 Cats Die In Cherokee Blaze

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — Four cats were found dead while first responders recently battled a pair of fires, one of which consumed a Waleska home, fire officials said Monday.

The first blaze happened Friday at an Acworth house, according to Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services.

When crews arrived, fire officials said they located the four cats during a search of the home. All four cats had died, fire officials said.

The residents were not home at the time of the fire, which crews were able to contain to one room to hinder spreading, fire officials said.

The next day, the department responded to a house fire in the Lake Arrowhead community in Waleska.

Firefighters were forced to take an alternate route to the scene due to a tree and downed power lines that blocked the roadway, fire officials said.

When they arrived at the home, fire officials said they found heavy flames consuming the first and second floors.

A man who was inside the basement was quickly located, fire officials said. They added first responders were able to safely get him out of the home.

No residents or firefighters were injured in either blaze, fire officials said.

The cause of the fires was not immediately available.
