Acworth Cultural Arts Center May Lease Building on Russell Ave.

The Acworth City Council could vote to approve the lease during their Thursday evening meeting.

The Acworth Cultural Arts Center is looking to lease a building on Senator Russell Avenue, next to the Center Tavern in the heart of historic downtown Acworth.

According to the agenda for the Thursday meeting of the Acworth City Council, the building at 4367 Senator Russell Ave. would be leased to the Acworth Cultural Arts Center if the mayor and board of aldermen approve the measure.

According to American Legion Post 304, the site is used occasionally as a Veterans Information and Referral Office (VIRO), which provides veterans with information on their VA benefits and refers them to other local resources they can tap into. It is not clear if the VIRO has been closed, or how it would be affected by the lease.

The city is also considering purchasing two electronic message board signs for announcing road closures and special events at a cost of $31,770. In addition, the city could enter into an agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation to begin work with CSX to improve the city’s five at-grade railroad crossings.

The Acworth City Council will meet to discuss these and other issues on Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. at Acworth City Hall.
