Acworth Lawmaker Introduces Religious Freedom Restoration Act
State Rep. Ed Setzler's bill is drawing fire from gay advocacy groups.

ATLANTA, GA -- State Rep. Ed Setzler (R-Acworth) has introduced his own version of a religious freedom protection act.
Setzler is the main sponsor of HB 837, entitled the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, according to GeorgiaPOL. The bill is similar to a measure now in the state Senate, sponsored by Sen. Josh McKoon (R-Columbus).
Setzler’s bill is also being co-sponsored by state Rep. Sam Teasley (R-Marietta.)

Both McKoon’s and Setzler’s bills are being slammed by gay advocacy groups on the grounds they could lead to discriminatory behavior against the LGBT community.
McCoon’s bill is currently being heard by the Senate Judiciary community. House Speaker David Ralston has not assigned a committee to hear Setzler’s bill, but it likely will head to the House Judiciary committee if Ralston does indeed move the bill forward.
