
The Acworth Police Department is taking applications for its 13th annual Citizens’ Police Academy. The Academy will begin on March 5, 2013 and will be held every Tuesday from 6:30 till 9:00 pm (except for the week of Spring Break). Graduation will be held on May 21. During the twelve weeks, participants will have the opportunity to interact with officers and receive a basic understanding of the operations of the Acworth Police Department and law enforcement in general. Upon completion of the course, graduates will be invited to ride along with officers during a tour of duty. All classes will be held at the Acworth Police Department, with a few field trips.
Non-residents will be required to be sponsored for the Academy by a city business owner, Citizens’ Police Academy graduate or an Acworth Police officer. The class is free but space is limited.
Participants must be 21 years of age and submit to a background screening. Those persons who are interested may submit an application by downloading the application here and mailing it or faxing it to the police department. Applications can also be picked up in person at the Acworth Police Department located at: 4400 Acworth Industrial Dr., Acworth, Ga., 30101. The fax number to the Department is 678-801-4059.
